Carmelo meets Prince Harry, hopes to play in London

Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks are in London, England to face the Milwaukee Bucks at the soldout O2 Arena.  I say Carmelo and the Knicks because it looks like he will return.  Melo spoke to the media during his day of activities, including a meeting with Prince Harry.  “It’s London…we don’t get these chances often, so for me to be able to push myself and at least get back on the court tomorrow night, I’m looking forward to that.  Hopefully I can do that.  Once I’m back, it’s not just about London.  If I play tomorrow, I’m going to continue playing.”  We shall see at 3pm if Carmelo will return to lead the Knicks to victory in London.

There will be several activities throughout the week of the game, featuring NBA players, legends and coaching staff:

The NBA has teamed up with BT Sport’s The Supporters Club in a partnership to support Greenhouse, a national sports charity that uses sport to engage hard-to-reach young people. An NBA coach, along with NBA Global Ambassador Dikembe Mutombo, and former NBA player John Amaechi, yesterday led an NBA clinic for 40 young players featuring multiple stations focusing on the fundamentals of basketball.

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will join Prince Harry and Amaechi at the Royal Foundation’s Coach Core graduation ceremony on Jan. 14.  This is part of the partnership between NBA Cares and the Royal Foundation which was announced in Dec. 2014. Coach Core is an apprenticeship program training the next generation of sports coaches and mentors.

NBA Cares will also conduct a Unified Basketball Clinic presented by Coca-Cola on Jan. 14 in partnership with Special Olympics Great Britain and local youth groups.  Members of the New York Knicks and the Milwaukee Bucks, as well as NBA Legend John Starks, will lead a one-hour clinic for a mix of Special Olympics athletes and other local youth.
