Fordham’s Chris Sengfelder stepping up by Brandon Nix

Chris Sengfelder

This year the Fordham Rams feature a lot of young players. Eric Paschall is the most talented among that group, but another young player is steadily moving behind him. That player is Chris Sengfelder. Hailing from Germany, Sengfelder has made an impact on a team that’s looking for leadership from its young players. With the absence of Jon Severe, Sengfelder could take up the role as secondary scorer. In Uprising Academy he averaged a double-double his senior year of high school. 18 points and 10 rebounds a game, a good look for the 6’7” forward.

In his first game as a Ram, Sengfelder scored 17 points while shooting 3-4 from the three-point line and shooting over 50% from the field. Not only did you get to see his outside range, but also his inside scoring ability as well. Chris possesses a combination of skill that stretches the floor and gives his team more scoring opportunities. Since the first game his scoring has gone down a bit but a showdown against Monmouth on December 10 would be his best game this season.

Sengfelder came out firing, scoring 10 points on 3-4 shooting in the first half. Fordham was in control for most of the game until Monmouth made a comeback late in the second half. Thanks to a game-tying three from Monmouth Guard Collin Stewart, the game went into overtime. With the game tied at 57 in overtime Sengfelder made a huge dunk that not only shifted the momentum back toward Fordham, but also enabled them to take the lead. From that point on the Rams never looked back and controlled the game for the rest of overtime. Fordham won 68-58, with Sengfelder finishing with a season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds. Look for Sengfelder to play a bigger role as the season progresses.
