Danny Green Leads His Sons On and Off the Court

Danny Green, Jr., is enjoying an incredible run in the playoffs for a second year in a row.  The San Antonio Spurs were up three games to two against LeBron James and the Miami Heat a year ago, only to lose games six and seven.  This year, the Spurs are once again on the cusp of a championship, as the lead the Heat three games to one as they return home on Sunday with a chance to become NBA champions.  How fitting would it be for the Spurs to win on Father’s Day?  It would be a great gift to his Dad.

I spoke with Danny Green Sr. during the NBA season and he shared some wisdom for fellow fathers. “Be actively involved.  Have a huge presence in your kid’s life and try to be as positive as you can.”  Green, who has four sons, including New York state high school basketball standout Devonte Green, added advice about inevitable failures.  “You are going to make your mistakes along the way.  Don’t be afraid to make your mistakes.  When you do, move forward and you learn from those mistakes and you teach your kids the same things and you hope that your generation is better than where you are at.  You always want to put them one step ahead of where you were.”  Mr. Green is well on his way of accomplishing that, and much more.
