Fordham sophomore Jon Severe returns to practice

Severe 2

Fordham sophomore guard Jon Severe returned to practice after a month-long absence from the team. According to reports, Severe’s expected to be ready for Fordham’s Atlantic 10 opener at home against VCU.

The Rams were hoping this season Severe would build off his strong showing as a freshman. He averaged 17.3 points per game as the team’s second leading scorer during the 2013-14 season. However, after missing the first game of the year, Severe struggled to produce in the next three games for Fordham, he would then go on a leave of absence for personal reasons.

“Having Jon Severe back with us at 100 percent will obviously raise our talent level and make us a better basketball team,” Fordham head coach Tom Pecora said. “The key to the process is Jon feeling comfortable enough to come back and compete on a daily basis.”

Fordham weathered the storm to a 5-6 record in non-conference play this season, however league play is an entirely different beast. Freshman Eric Paschall, junior Mandell Thomas, and freshman Christian Sengfelder have all stepped up this season for the young Rams. However, getting Severe back potentially adds more firepower they’ll need to keep afloat in the tough Atlantic 10.

This is very encouraging news for Pecora and the Rams, and the timing couldn’t be better.
