Fordham struggles at Rose Hill

Fordham failed to take care of business at home against UMass Lowell. Turnovers and poor shooting were the story for this game. “Bottom line is if you make free throws and you make layups and you don’t turn the ball over you’re going to win a lot of basketball games,” said Fordham coach Tom Pecora. In the first half Fordham started off playing well, shooting 50% from three, taking a 13-5 lead.  The River Hawks made their comeback by forcing 12 turnovers in the first half. Scoring came from guards Marco Banegas-Flores with 4 points and Jahad Thomas with 6 points, as they led 25-24 at the half.

In the second half the scoring picked up, as both teams were shooting over 60% to start. The game stood close for a while until the River Hawks broke out to a 7-0 run late in the second half. Fordham struggled to score, just shooting barely over 30% in the second half. Fordham had chances to make it a game thanks to missed free throws by the River Hawks but the Rams couldn’t make a basket. Fordham finished with a 33.9 field goal percentage and 18 turnovers.  The River Hawks won the game 64-57 with Banegas-Flores scoring 16 points and Thomas adding 12 points.
