Knicks Lose Third-Straight to Cavaliers, 109-102 in Overtime by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

Friday, the New York Knicks faced LeBron James and his new team, the Miami Heat, who came in with a 10-game winning streak, and lost. Last night, they faced LeBron’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who came in with a 10-game losing streak, and lost, 109-102.
After an emotional week that saw the Knicks host the Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, and Heat, the Knicks headed to Cleveland and the emotional week may have been a factor.
The Knicks led by as much as 9 in the first half, 47-38, on a Shawne Williams 3-pointer with 5:30 left in the second quarter, but the Cavs would cut it to 52-49 at halftime.
The Cavs took their first lead in the third quarter, 54-52, but the Knicks responded with a 12-3 run to go up 64-57. The game entered the fourth quarter tied at 74, and the Knicks took a 4-point lead into the final minute of the fourth quarter.
Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison hit baskets in the final minute, and Amar’e Stoudemire missed a shot in the final seconds that could have won the game.
In overtime, Williams took over, scoring 6 points and dishing out 3 assists to account for 12 of the 16 points scored in overtime to give the Cavs a 109-102 victory. Williams led 6 Cavaliers in double figures with a game-high 23 points and 14 assists. Antawn Jamison scored 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while Anthony Parker added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Anderson Varejao scored 14 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and blocked 4 shots, and Daniel Gibson chipped in with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Ramon Sessions came off the bench to score 12 points, hand out 4 assists and 4 and grabbed 4 rebounds.
The Knicks were led by Amar’e Stoudemire, who scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots, and Raymond Felton, who also scored 23 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. Landry Fields scored 11 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and had 3 steals. Williams scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds off the bench.
