Amar’e Sits Out, Knicks Knock Off Nets, 105-95 by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

It was announced that Amar’e Stoudemire would sit out yesterday’s game for the New York Knicks with a sprained right big toe shortly before the start of the game against the New Jersey Nets for the first time at the Prudential Center.  It didn’t affect the outcome, as the New York Knicks defeated the New Jersey Nets 105-95.

“They told me that his toe was bothering him earlier this morning.  I saw him walk in, he tried to put some weight on it but couldn’t quite do it.  He’s day-to-day but I think he’ll be ready on Wednesday” Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni said after the game.

When asked about the injury, Stoudemire said ” I think it might have been injured on that Ron Artest play when I was running down the court and didn’t see him.  Hopefully with a few days rest and some treatment I’ll be able to go on Wednesday.  Getting this rest will be phenomenal for getting myself into top shape.”

When asked where the defensive breakdowns were, Nets point guard Devin Harris said “On penetration, leaving strong-side corner.  We’re doubling the ball in certain areas where we don’t need to.  Anthony Morrow agreed.  “We had some key breakdowns.  We had some gameplan issues at the end of the game and we can’t have those issues, especially against a team that shoots the threes as well as them.”

Wilson Chandler led the Knicks with 21 points, 8 rebounds, and tied his career-high with 5 blocks.  Landry Fields added 14, 9 in the fourth quarter, with 5 assists and 4 rebounds, and Raymond Felton finished with 13 points and 11 assists for his 23rd double-double of the season.  Toney Douglas scored 19 points, and Bill Walker added 11 points and 6 rebounds, both off the bench.

Devin Harris led the Nets with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, while Brook Lopez finished with 19 points.  Derrick Favors scored 9 points and grabbed a career-high 14 points, and Jordan Farmar added 12 points off the bench.  Sasha Vujacic added 15 points, and Kris Humphries 8 points and 11 rebounds, both off the bench.
