Amar’e & JR Smith talk Carmelo reaching 20,000 points

JR Smith and Amar'e Stoudemire talk Carmelo Anthony scoring 20,000 points

Carmelo Anthony became the sixth youngest player in NBA history to reach 20,000 points last night when he nailed a three-pointer in the first quarter in a 96-93 win over the Charlotte Hornets.  Two of Carmelo’s teammates, Amar’e Stoudemire and JR Smith talked about the accomplishment.

“That’s great. That means that you put in a lot of work in this league,” Amar’e said.  “That you stayed injury free and put in a lot of work in practice. There’s a lot of repetition that goes into being that efficient within the games. A lot of young players see the highlights and glamour and glitz on the basketball court, but in practice that’s when the work really gets done. To score 20,000 points shows that (Carmelo) really puts in the work, the time and the effort in practice,” he continued.

JR Smith also talked about the accomplishments of his long-time teammate.  “It is unbelievable.  Watching him for so many years…I have seen him be the scoring champ.  I have seen what he has accomplished overall.  It really is unbelievable. All the hard work he has put in has paid off.”

Smith has watched Melo score the majority of those points in his career, and looks forward to watching him score more.
