Rysheed Jordan taking a leave of absence from St. John’s

St John’s sophomore guard Rysheed Jordan has taken a leave of absence from the program, according to reports.

The surprising news comes on the eve of the Red Storm’s next game. St. John’s will be hosting Butler while looking to rebound from a loss to Seton Hall in the Big East opener Wednesday.

Jordan’s 14.0 points per game is second on the team, in addition to his 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Jordan has been coming off the bench for St. John’s recently, as he was replaced in the starting lineup by Jamal Branch. What’s also alarming is how this effects the overall depth on head coach Steve Lavin’s roster. The Red Storm tend to only go six-seven players deep, and the options after Jordan are slim.

“Rysheed will take an indefinite leave of absence from our basketball program and will not be with the team as he focuses his attention on personal and family circumstances,” said Lavin.

How Lavin manages to shake up the roster without Jordan will be worth keeping an eye on. The Red Storm are in the midst of their best season under Lavin, they’re currently 11-2, and ranked 15th in the latest AP Poll.
