LeBron, Heat Dominate Nets 101-78 by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

The Big Three, LeBron, Wade, and Bosh

I asked LeBron James what he was pleased with through the first three games of the season with the Miami Heat. “I think defensively. That’s where we want to make our mark, and from game one to game three we’ve continued to make improvements. In the last game we played as close to 48 minutes as possible. That’s all that you can ask out of this team. We just try to continue to improve with the lack of practice time that we’ve had.”

Make that four games. Miami dominated The New Jersey Nets from the beginning, taking an early double-digit lead with 6:36 left in the first quarter, and led by no fewer than 10 points for the majority of the game, winning 101-78 to hand the Nets their first loss of the season. The Big Three of Miami all got off to good offensive starts in the first quarter, with Dwyane Wade scoring 10, Chris Bosh scoring 8, and James scoring 6, as they took an 11-point lead into the second quarter. Brook Lopez, a potential all-star for the East this season, lead all in the first quarter with 11 points, but also picked up 2 early fouls. James would finish with 20 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds, while Bosh scored 18 in his best game of the early season. Wade scored 17 for a balanced Heat attack that saw starting point guard Carlos Arroyo finish with 12 points, while Eddie House and Zydrunas Ilgauskas came off the bench with 11 and 10, respectively.

The Nets were led by Lopez, who scored 20 points, while Devin Harris added 13. First-round draft pick and reserve Derrick Favors finished with his first-career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, 10 on the offensive end, and reserve Terrence Williams finished with 11.

The New Jersey Nets next play the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
