LeBron Wants Cleveland Love

With his first decision that saw him take his talents to South Beach and the Miami Heat, LeBron James had problems getting love in Ohio outside of his hometown of Akron after teaming with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.  With making ‘The Decision 2.0′ after winning two NBA championships in four trips to the NBA Finals in Miami, LeBron is back to getting a lot of L-O-V-E in his home state.   Now it appears LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking for a different type of affection in the name of NBA All-Star big man Kevin Love.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star is a statistical dream, averaging 26.1 points per game last season and as many as 15.2 rebounds in his career.  He can also step out to the three-point line and knock down a triple at a respectable average (38% last season) and he has shot as much as 46% from the field in his career twice.  But the Love detractors will mention the lack of success of the teams he has played on during his career.

The Timberwolves have never finished above .500 in the Love Era despite his impressive numbers. The team’s best record led by him was last season, in which they went 40-42, good for 10th in the Western Conference and nine games behind the eighth and final playoff seed. The UCLA product played over 70 games for the third time in his six-year career this season, and in his previous season that he hit that benchmark, the 2010-2011 season, the team finished with a putrid record of 17-65 despite Love putting up 20 points and 15 rebounds per game.

Kevin Love, along with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, would create a new Big Three that would be expected to compete, and possibly win, an NBA title immediately.  With the absence of playoff experience for Love and Irving, along with the potential defensive deficiencies of the pair, it may not be realistic to expect a Cleveland championship in the 2014-2015 season with or without Love. One thing seems to be certain: LeBron James wants Cleveland Love.
