Sasha Vujacic, recently acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers on December 14, 2010, helped the New Jersey Nets defeat the Chicago Bulls, 96-94, off a putback after a lob pass from Devin Harris intended for Brook Lopez was tipped by Bulls guard C.J. Wilson.  “That’s how Devin drew it up and it was great” Nets head coach Avery Johnson joked after the game.  “He was in the right place at the right time.  He was looking at a lob from Brook, but if the lob wasn’t where we wanted it then we wanted to get the ball to Sasha and post Brook up.  As hard as we’ve been working here recently, we needed something fortunate to happen to our team and I was just excited.  We needed this now, we needed some laughter in our locker room after the game.  We can’t always have our guys leaving with their heads down and me trying to pick them up” Johnson added.

“I just had the feeling throughout the entire fourth quarter that something good could come out of it.  We stayed positive, coach gace positive energy to the entire bench and I think that was the biggest help” Vujacic said after the game, who finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.  He added “It really feels good.  We really, really needed this win.I think the way coach made everybody stay calm throughout the fourth quarter after we lost that lead was good.”

The Nets were lead by Kris Humphries, who tied a season high with 20 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds.  On his performance, Coach Johnson said “Humphries did a really nice job for us coming off the bench.  He probably had his best game in a winning situationfor us tonight.”  When asked about coming off the bench as opposed to starting, Humphries said “There is no anger.  I didn’t have a good game against them last time.  That motivated me more than not starting.  Whatever people’s role is we have to accept it and do it to the fullest.”  When asked how the win felt, Kris replied “It feels good.  We put a lot into this.”

Brook Lopez, who finished with 14 points, 2 blocks, and 3 rebounds, talked about the win.  “It was fantastic.  Coach wrote what we all need to do on the board before the game.”  Devin Harris added a double-double as well, scoring 18 points while dishing out 11 assists, and grabbing 4 rebounds.  Stephen Graham added 11 points and 4 rebounds.

The Bulls were lead by their Most Valauble Player candidate Derrick Rose, who scored 21 points, but he missed a shot that would have won the game.  When I asked Rose what was going through his mind on the final possession, he responded “It was going to be hard for me to drive where they were cutting down the elbows making me force the ball, forcing me to pass, and I just took the shot.  It hurt not having a timeout.  I think I took a bad shot at the end.”   On whether he was surprised with Boozer not coming back into the game, “Yeah, we were surprised, but we are not going to try to coach, we are going to go out and do our job, and that is to play.”  Boozer only played 26:11 of the game, and sat out the entire fourth quarter.  When asked about his lineup, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said “The Nets were small on the perimiter when they were playing Jordan Farmar, Devin Harris, and Sasha Vujacic.  We had a hard time matching up, that’s why we went small too thinking that would help.”

Luol Deng scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Bulls, while Carlos Boozer added 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Ronnie Brewer came off the bench to score 11 points.  The Bulls have not won a game in New Jersey in over two years, when they defeated the Nets on December 29, 2008, 100-87.

The Nets play in Washington tomorrow against the Wizards.
