Nets Lose to Kobe, Lakers, 99-92 by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

The New Jersey Nets battled, they even led by 1, 78-77, with 4:45 left in the fourth quarter against the National Basketball Association World Champion Los Angeles Lakers, but ultimately, Kobe Bryant would send the many Net fans in a crowd of 16,561 that included Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Ryan Howard, home disappointed, as he scored 25 of his 32 in the second half to lead the Lakers to a 99-92 win over the Nets yesterday at the Prudential Center.

Forward Kris Humphries of the Nets was disappointed with the loss, but not with the team’s effort. “I’m happy with our team’s effort. The last two games, Dallas and here, we’ve been able to put ourselves in a position to have a chance to win against two of the elite teams in the west. We need to figure out a way to carry that over against teams that aren’t on that level and start securing some wins.”

The game was Jordan Farmar’s first against his former team, in which he played the first four seasons of his career. “I love Jordan. I have great respect for him” Bryant said after the game. Lamar Odom added Jordan’s a good kid. I think he played well.”

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 25 points and 9 rebounds, while Devin Harris and Humphries both notched double-doubles, with Harris putting up 16 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds, while Humphries added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Morrow scored 15 points.

The Lakers were led by Kobe’s 32 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds, and Lamar Odom had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Starting center Pau Gasol scored 15 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked 5 shots.

The Lakers have won 6 straight against the Nets, with the last Net victory coming in a 102-100 win in Los Angeles on November, 25, 2007. The Nets next play the Philadelphia Sixers tomorrow at 7pm.

The Lakers visit President Obama today in honor of their championship. “It shows you have made it” said Lamar Odom, when asked about meeting him.
