Seton Hall Pirates Lose to #3 Louisville 73-58 by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

It was a spirited game for the Seton Hall Pirates at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, but they were unable to keep up with the short-handed Louisville Cardinals, 73-58. It was a tough night for guards of Seton Hall, as leading scorer Fuquan Edwin was held to 13 points on 4-14 shooting, Aaron Cosby scored just 11 points and was 1-10 from the field with three turnovers, and Tom Maayan missed his only shot from the field and his only free throw attempt, while turning the ball over three times. Brandon Mobley led the team with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Eugene Teague had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but also turned the ball over a game-high six times.

Gorgui Deng led the Cardinals with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Montrezi Harrell added 14 points. Russ Smith finished with 11 points and 6 assists despite a 2-11 night from the field, and Peyton Siva added 7 points and 7 assists. Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard spoke after the game. “I’m proud of my guys. They battled. That’s a good team, number three in the country and we battled for about 30 minutes. The Pirates next host Providence Sunday at noon. Louisville hosts USF Sunday afternoon.
