Stoudemire Leads Knicks Against Celtics on ESPN at the Garden by Derrel “Jazz” Johnson

Tonight at Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks, winners of 8 straight games, host the Boston Celtics, winners of 10 in a row, in a matchup of two of the National Basketball Association’s(NBA) hottest teams.
The game pits the NBA’s best defense, the Celtics, allowing 91.0 points on the season, and 86.1 during the 10-game winning streak, against the NBA’s highest-scoring team, the Knicks, averaging 108.5 points, 114.5 during the 8-game winning streak.
Small forward Paul Pierce leads the Celtics in scoring with 18.0 points per game, a Celtics team that sees all five starters and one reserve (Glen Davis) scoring in double figures.   Rajon Rondo leads the NBA in assists with 13.7 per game.
The New York Knicks come into the game with an 8-game winning streak, and have won 13 of 14.  Off-season acquisition Amar’e Stoudemire has scored 30 or more in 8-straight games, setting a new franchise record, previously held by Willie Naulls, who scored 30 or more in 7 straight from February 4, 1962, to March 4, 1962.  Stoudemire is averaging 33.9 points and 10.9 rebounds during the 8-game winning streak.  The Knicks have won eight straight for the first time since December 27, 1994, to January 3, 1995.
